4. A metronome – a what?
This is a little device that helps you keep time. You can get an app for it too. Practicing to a beat is a fantastic tool and one that should be encouraged as for exams, we use metronomes a lot!

5. Pencil and rubber
Every musician should have a pencil to mark their music to assist they’re remembering of sections, and a rubber to clear it away when they don’t need it anymore.

6. Mutes – for those brass instruments
A mute changes the sound of brass instruments and can be called into being used at anytime – so it’s a handy tool to have. The most common mute is a straight mute. You can also get practice mutes that soften the sound of the instruments so practice can happen at anytime!

7. Instrument stand – for brass instruments

9. Spit cloth – for brass instruments
A spit cloth? Brass instruments produce a lot of water – mainly from your mouth, but also as a build up of condensation within the instrument. There are water keys on the instruments to expel that build up of water – spit. Help not to share your spit with others, by having your own bit of cloth to release the valve with.
